Cross Border Project: ‘Writing Together’

This is a proposed collaboration between Laois Teachers’ Centre and the SELB.  The plan is to bring teachers together across the border through a writing project targetted at Primary 5 pupils.  Ten schools from the SELB and ten from Laois would be involved.  The teachers would meet in conference, one in Dublin and one in Armagh. T he children would write for one another, possibly on-line.

OBJECTIVES:

·                    To foster and promote contacts between schools and teachers across the border

·                    To reduce psychological and academic isolation

·                    To promote the professional development of teachers

·                    To involve parents and raise awareness

·                    To impact on the wider community

·                    To provide an opportunity to develop the written language skills of pupils

·                    To raise awareness of language differences: words, phrases, expressions

·                    To examine the opportunity for language enrichment

·                    To investigate gender differences in relation to language use

·                    To provide opportunities for professional development for cross-border teams
